English Ext. Task 1 Notification
Post-colonial creative + reflection (Draft due 8:00 am Tuesday 17th of March (Week 7)) Part A: Short Story (900 words) You have been invited to submit a piece of creative or discursive writing to the literary journal Post / colonial in response to the following abstract: Post / colonial is an international journal presenting a forum for both the critical discussion of postcolonial literature, culture, history, and theory, as well as postcolonial fiction. It is concerned with ways of negotiating the various links and disjunctures between postcolonial, western, and diasporic communities of writers, readers, and academics. Post / colonial fosters discussions about the culturally contested and, at times, theoretically slippery terrain of postcolonial studies. The journal invites work that is concerned with different concepts of cultural identity and belonging and that challenges received colonial metanarratives. Post / colonial remains committed to an informed examination of the neocolonial and uneven power relationships at the crossroads of class, gender, and race. Part B: Reflection (300 words) Reflect on your intentions in this piece, how it responds to the abstract above and how at least ONE mentor text has helped shape your ideas and your creative approach.
